Numerical Study of the Impact of Fluid–Structure Interaction on Flow Noise over a Rectangular Cavity

Fluid–structure interactions (FSI) can significantly affect flow and the acoustic field generated by it. In this article, simulations of over a rectangular cavity are conducted with without taking FSI into account. The aim research is to conduct numerical study verify whether between elastic structure itself or pressure field. Four cases involving flexible walls different material parameters one reference case rigid were analysed. two-directional fluid–structure coupling was simulated. performed volume finite element methods using OpenFOAM software solve fluid field, CalculiX displacement structure, preCICE library couple codes computed fields. analogy Ffowcs-Williams Hawkings libAcoustics used calculate sound pressure. simulation results showed that has significant influence on in terms both amplitudes levels as well noise frequency composition. There increase compared walls, especially for frequencies above 1 kHz. at which occurred related natural Rossiter frequencies. Overlap these may lead an structural vibrations, observed materials used. This provide insight generation mechanism when taken conclusions presented here form basis further work aerodynamic presence thin-walled structures.
